I did Yoga with Amy for about a year. I wish it could have been longer. I have practiced yoga for 16 years and always enjoyed it, but I didn’t really make the connection between breathing and movement and how to translate that into my daily life. As well as helping with fitness, suppleness and relaxation, Amy’s method teaches and helps practice resilience in dealing with life stresses. You don’t even need to be conscious of it for it to work! Amy is a great teacher with a deep understanding of how yoga can help different physical and psychological needs for individuals within the class.

I had never been to a yoga class before going to Amy’s and I was very nervous. That was three years ago. Now, through participating in these sessions I have both a physical sense of balance in my life and an emotional balance. I have never felt this way about any exercise routine at all. These yoga sessions gave me a physical sense of wellbeing and they were balm to my soul. I would return home and be asked by my husband if I had had a good session and my usual response was “Yes, it was lovely”.

I found Amy to be an excellent listener, and a knowledgeable and inspiring yoga therapist. She was completely unfazed by the long list of emotional and physical issues that I’m dealing with and addressed each complaint with what I found to be appropriate and effective recommendations for asana [movement], breathing, and yoga nidra [relaxation] practices. At the end of my time with Amy, I feel a genuinely positive difference in the state of my overall health. I believe this is down to the combination of the practices she suggested as well as comments that she made in passing that seemed to be exactly what I needed to hear at that time. This is the sort of wisdom that Amy effortlessly brings to therapeutic practice. Most importantly, she has re-ignited my love of yoga and helped restore my confidence in practicing asanas that I had previously been hesitant to attempt again following injury. In my experience, a therapist who listens with compassion and is able to propose a range of solutions is a rare jewel indeed. I greatly appreciate Amy’s professionalism and the fact that she made our sessions so enjoyable. I have tremendous gratitude for our time together and would recommend her heartily.

Amy’s therapeutic yoga classes have helped me in so many facets of my life, and on different levels. From an external perspective, my flexibility and strength have improved greatly, but many things have shifted deeper within me too: one of the most powerful outcomes of taking these classes is that I have been able to build a profound sense of trust in my body and in myself generally. I have also had perfectionism issues my whole life, and in this space I was able to give myself permission to rest, to not force myself into exhaustion, which I have now been able to apply to my relationships with people, my university work and my rest time. A significant part of my current wellbeing is a result of Amy’s classes!

Amy and I met for our first appointment and chatted. She actively listened to my story and asked open questions that made me really think about the perception of myself and my movement habits, all without feeling like I was being examined. She explained how yoga therapy works and quickly allayed my fears of hippy-esque movements and chanting!
Over the course of 5 sessions I realized that I don’t hate yoga at all! In fact learning that my body has to burn off some of its surface energy before it can experience relaxation was life changing. I was finally able to access a state of deep relaxation, albeit after some intense but enjoyable sun salutations!
My yoga form was challenged in an open and collaborative way, and visibly improved, which made me so much more confident in my movements.
Amy then guided me through a series of exercise routines that I could use when my tired mind produced negative thought patterns – they focused on grounding, breathing and slow strength. I was able to do balance poses that I had previously only seen on social media – and now it was me doing them.
Unbelievable.
I felt strong. Grounded. Capable.
Since working with Amy, I have found an enjoyable balance between developing my yoga practice and weight training to improve my strength and range of functional motion. She taught me a great deal about the links between body and mind and it ignited a curiosity which has subsequently lead me to daily monitoring of my Heart Rate Variability for optimal recovery and health.
My opportunity to work with Amy came at the perfect time for my health and wellbeing. She is approachable, knowledgeable and has a genuine desire to connect with people, beyond the superficial level. Her knowledge of the way the mind works, along with the biochemistry of the body was tremendous and it appealed to me immensely, given my fear of yoga being “too wishy washy”.
Amy is a talented educator and exceptional yoga therapist. I feel grateful for her guidance throughout that time.
